While walking around Americus, taking pictures of historic homes, I get a bit peckish. Eric goes on Yelp.com and looks at reviews for area restaurants. Gladys' Kitchen Family Style Restaurant stands out as a good choice for lunch. Eric plugs the address into our GPS and we drive to our chosen lunch spot.
Gladys' Kitchen gets great
reviews for their
Fried Chicken.
We haven't had Fried Chicken since we arrived in Georgia on January 15. It's time to sit down and enjoy this Southern specialty.
Gladys' Kitchen serves food
cafeteria style.
Diners seat themselves
at booths...
...at intimate tables for
two or three.
An adjacent room has
tables for four & six.
Eric & I read the menu,
pick up our trays &
go through the line.
Eric chose Black-Eyed Peas
(listed as Field Peas.), Macaroni
& Cheese with a Corn Muffin
& a Lace Corn Cake to go
with his Fried Chicken.
I selected Turnips, Macaroni
& Cheese & a Lace Cake to
accompany my Fried Chicken.
Lunch was great! We thanked the staff and raved about the food. Tracia Tullis, the owner, came out of the kitchen to chat with us. Gladys' Kitchen serves the best Fried Chicken and fixings in Americus and she's proud to boast about her staff and the home style cuisine served here.
The lace corn cake or Flat Cornbread was my favorite.... maybe even more than the chicken... but not a LOT more, the Chicken was great. Not oily at all, very light breading and crispy. Obviously they keep the oil at the proper temperature so the food does not soak up any oil.
