Driving South to Gasburg, Virginia






We have to travel north
on Route 4 to get to
Interstate 95 South.






Eric follows the signs south
toward Richmond, Virginia.

Andrews Air Force Base.






We cross into Virginia.






Windows are missing
from this building.





It doesn't need windows...

This new looking building
is being demolished.






I hope the planners connected
all these roads.






This is the eye catching building
Marine Corps in Quantico,Virginia.





The 495 Express Lanes
located in the middle of
Virginia's Capital Beltway
are closed for work.






The high occupancy vehicle Express Lanes are designated for vehicles with two or more persons.






Posts are being installed along
the highway for the
construction of noise barriers.







Miles of solid walls along highways have become more common in the United States in the last forty years.









We leave the I-495 Beltway
around Washington, DC &
continue south toward
Richmond on I-95 South.

We are stopping to stretch
& pick up a few brochures.

The Civil War raged across Virginia during the entire length of the Civil War.  Major battles sere fought in Fredericksburg in 1862 and Spotsylvania in 1864.

  Richmond & Petersburg.











We cross the James River
on the Varina-Enon Bridge.

The weight of the bridge span
 is born by the cables attached
to the bridge's towers.

We are now in
Chesterfield County








A lumber truck & a
wide load truck
head north.





After bypassing Richmond
& Petersburg, we return
to Interstate 95.

us to Stony Creek,
Sussex County, Virginia.

The rest of our drive to Gasburg is on two lane roads.







We pass farm fields & the
occasional house.












Eric spots a deer blind
at the edge of a field.












We will be staying at The Club
Lake Gaston Resort for six days
before continuing south.

directions to our
campsite.





We are all alone in this section of 
the campground.

After a busy week visiting the Annapolis/Washington, DC area, I can get some chores done, read, kick back and relax.
