Downtown Detroit, Michigan

Eric and I continued east to Detroit, Michigan. French explorer Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac established a fort on the Detroit River in 1701.  The British took Detroit from the French in 1760.  Detroit was then ceded to the United States in 1796, following the Revolutionary War.









Downtown Detroit is a
busy commercial area.











Comerica Park is the home









The Hong Kong Opera
is in town.





Detroit has a history as a manufacturing city.  Henry Ford is credited with bringing mass production to the automotive industry in Detroit, making it the Motor City.

Detroit also gave America Motown, the record label that launched the careers of many talented  singers and musical groups.

Like many heavily industrialized cities, Detroit has seen its major employers leave.  After decades of decline, Detroit filed for bankruptcy on July 18, 2013.  A court has yet to rule on whether Detroit's bankruptcy can proceed.

I'm interested to see what happens to Detroit.  So far, there's a lot of speculation...
