The National Museum in Managua, Nicaragua

The National Museum is in
the National Palace.

This building was used
for government business
for over fifty years.

Blanca sold us tickets for our visit....$80.00 Cordobas each, or about $3.50 American dollars. Otto gave us a tour of the museum that lasted about one hour.  He doesn't speak English and our Spanish is very poor.  We all worked hard... Otto did a great job explaining exhibits and we kept asking questions until we understood Otto's descriptions of what we saw.

This painting shows the Nicaraguan
people's solidarity with the
United States' losses
on September 11.

Pre-Columbian statues
stand at the base of
this staircase.

(I love staircases.)

This artwork depicts the
lore of cacao, the substance
chocolate is made from.

I liked these pieces
created with foil.

Conversando con
un perro "spoke to me."

This piece depicts  the political
bondage experienced by many
in Nicaraguan history.

Nicaraguans trace their
ancestry to the Aztecs.

Painting of an
Aztec God

Beneath the picture of the
 God are funerary urns.

The Aztecs believed in
 reincarnation.
Bodies were prepared &
buried in expectation of
moving on to the next life.

Eric and I enjoyed our visit to the National Museum.  We tipped Otto and thanked him for his time.  Then we said goodbye to Blanca and gave her one of our cards.  I hope she checks out the blog.  I would appreciate corrections to my text.
