Lunch at Lake Managua

Eric and I walked toward Lake Managua and enjoyed the sights along the way.

The Old Cathedral was
devastated by the earthquake
in 1972.  Its shell remains.

La Casa De Los Pueblos
The House of the People

I'm having a hard time finding
an article in English on this building.

There are many more
Nativity Scenes on
Avenue Bolivar.

Giant Baby Jesus
is adored by all.

This statue honors Nicaragua's
great poet, Ruben Dario.

Thank you, Ricardo Bendana!

This boat is moored next
to the restaurant we
stopped at  for lunch.

Lakeside dining

Lunch was chicken, cheese,
french fries, rice,  beets
 and tomatoes with
Tono, a Nicaraguan beer.

Simon Bolivar, the Father of
Independence in South America

He is revered throughout South
& Central America.

Thanks again, Ricardo!

It's obvious that Eric and I would have benefited from a guide as we strolled along near Lake Managua.  I also need to spend time reading up on an area before we visit.

Eric thanked the man who watched our car and gave him another small tip.  It's time to go home.

  1. "This is one of many statues that grace the area": The statue depicts Ruben Darío, Nicaragua's great poet who initiated the literary movement known as modernismo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruben_Dario).

"I love statues with horses": This is a statue of Simón Bolívar, who was instrumental in the independence of South American countries from Spain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Bolivar).
