The Big Obsidian Flow, East of La Pine, Oregon

We drove east from Cascade Meadow RV Resort  to The Big Obsidian Flow in Newberry National Volcanic Monument.

The landscape changed..... It's hard to take a bad pic here.

Ok, I don't take good pics
of signs from the car

The Obsidian Flow hike has loose stones, an uneven path.... Watch your step!

Obsidian and pumice changes to sand

Sky and a jumble of stone

Just you and I

It "flows" into a watery crescent

Eric, you can't take that stone home with you

The obsidian chair is at a perfect spot
in the trail for a rest

Eric!  Oh no!

Then Eric got up and took took this pic

At the summit of the flow

Eric, don't move!  You can stop the stone
from falling.

I think this formation looks like a gargoyle

  1. I really liked that trail. Not too steep and more black shiny rocks than you can shake a stick at... and you can shake a stick at a lot of rocks...
