The Old Columbus Water Tower: War Memorial Museum

& County Courthouse

A fire in 1883 threatened downtown Columbus.  The City commissioned this Water Tower, located on the Courthouse Square with a space for a horse-drawn Firetruck.  Water was supplied to it by a pump on nearby Spring Street.

The first water system in the City covered seven blocks and the increasing water usage led to shortages. In 1912 new Steel Water Tower was built and the water infrastructure in Columbus was expanded.

The empty Water Tower space became the War Memorial Museum.  It is filled with displays representing US Military History

I am happy to see that Columbus has chosen to preserve and repurpose many of its historic buildings. The choices made here ensure that the City and its residents will continue to grow and thrive here.
