The Great Rivers Museum in Alton, Illinois

Eric & I visit the National

It is next to the Melvin Price Locks & Dam.

The Army Corps of Engineers plans and constructs navigation channels, locks, and dams; dredges  America's harbors and inland waterways to maintain channel depths to ensure that waterway traffic flows smoothly.  The winding, mucky-bottomed Mississippi River keeps the Corps busy.

My favorite geology/wildlife
display is Fountain Bluff.

This River is a busy highway.

Our country's Supply Chain
depends on maintaining it.

The Mississippi River inspires
poets, novelists & nonfiction
writers.

It is the subject of drawings,
paintings, & photos.

The River has a rich musical
heritage.

It is a source of America's
music.

The live feed of the Lock.

Eric pilots a barge along a
river, toward a Lock.

Eric and I learned a lot here.  I'm glad he added this stop to our drive.
