Visiting the Roebling Suspension Bridge in Cincinnati, Ohio

As Eric drives closer to the Ohio River I scan the skyline...

Our first sighting of the
Roebling Suspension Bridge.

The South Tower

The John A. Roebling Statue

Construction started in September 1856.  There were delays in constructing the tower bases and finances dried up in 1858.  Funding was restored in 1863 and work resumed.  Washington Roebling, John's son took over supervision of the project.  John moved to New York City to work on the plans for the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Bridge opened to the public
on January 1, 1867.

You can see the basic design of the Brooklyn Bridge here.

This historic Bridge connects two cities & is a tourist attraction in Ohio & Kentucky.
