The Jail Trail in Cottonwood, Arizona

The Jail Trail is conveniently located just off a parking lot.

This area, which hugs the Verde Valley River is influenced by abundant water.

Eric & I stop to admire this tall growing grass with bristles.

It's been a long time since we've seen this type of grass.

Hikers share the trail with Horses.

A shot of Eric & me with the
 towering Freemont

These trees need water...

Lots of water...

The Verde River is the reason these trees provide shade and homes for animals and birds.

The Verde River runs slowly here.

Small yellow flowers grow next to this short trail.

I recommend wearing sneakers or shoes on this trail because most of it is fine sand that blackens the feet of visitors wearing sandals.  (I speak from personal experience.)

A walk along this river trail is a great way to start a day in an unfamiliar town.  Next stop, North Main Street.
