The Painted Ladies of San Francisco, California

Eric & I in Alamo Park, across from the Painted Ladies, also known as Postcard Row.

I read a few articles about these beautiful Victorian homes on Steiner Street.  They face west and are in shadow in the morning.  We are here in the early afternoon and the houses' bright colors are on full display.

We are lucky to get a parking spot on the street near the Seven Sisters.  I imagine that these houses get many visitors.

Here are pictures that I took starting at the corner on the left.  The way each house is painted shows off its decorative details.  The results are lovely, artistic.

This home has two bay windows.

The front porch has a side entrance.

Here's a link that provides information about Victorian Home Architecture.

A tree hides this home's details.

An ornate gate allows access
to the front door.

Advances in paint manufacture in the 1800s allowed owners of Victorian homes to use bright colors to accentuate the many intricate details of their homes.

Paint brings out the ornate carvings.

The fans on the front door
are painted gold.

Each home has different ornamentation.

Look at the bottom right...

A garage has been added.

There's a sign in the upper window.

The new owner chronicles her renovations.

The exterior looks perfect.

Leah's quest is to update the interior.

It looks like buttons decorate the eaves.

The front doors are painted...

... the fans too.

The sign on the steps is for home tours.

This pediment is beautifully ornate.

The latticework provides a bit of whimsy...

The pediment on the Little Free
Library matches the house.

I love taking pictures of these houses.  One more for the road...
