The Transportation Employee Memorial @ the Michigan Visitors Center on Michigan in Clare, MI

Eric has a surprise to share
with me...

... in front of the Michigan Visitors Center in Clare is ...

... The Michigan Department
Memorial & The Highway
Worker Poem by James
Litzner

The Engineer in Charge
of a road project

The Survey Crew consists of
the Survey Equipment
Operator ...

... & the Crew Member holding
Jacob's Staff to measure
heights & distance.

A Highway Worker keeps
track of materials used
on the road project.

The Sign Person helps guide
drivers through the
road project.

Highway workers are hard
at work on the roadway.

The Highway Worker
A unique group of people,
Those who work the road.
Their work goes unnoticed,
Their story seldom told.
Yes men and women out there
Working day and night
Fixing bridges, roads and ramps
Trying to maintain them right.
The traffic rushed by them
Just a few feet away.
The highway worker is thinking
"Will this be my day."
Warning signs and lights
Try to slow them down.
But people move so very fast
Seems they have to get to town.
Then one day it happens,
A driver  slows too late,
And a scream from the highway worker,
Alas, they meet their fate.
Fellow co-workers mourn their passing
and hope the people will see,
Next time - "GIVE US A BRAKE"
Please slow down for me.

James Litzner
M.D.O.T. Highway Worker
