Day Six: US 50 East to Canon City, Colorado

Eric & I continue east on US 50.

Destination: Canon City

Eric looks at the snow-dusted mountains & says, "This looks like Hunting Season."

Regular Hunting in Southern Zone in Upstate New York starts the weekend before Thanksgiving. Often in late November, the nearby mountains are snowy.

We are driving through Gunnison National Forest.

Eric drives into this large pull-off.

There are many places for slower-moving to safely leave the road along this mountainous route and allow other vehicles to pass.

The green gondola on the upper right sits empty at Scenic Rides.

Monarch Crest

Continental Divide: 11,312 feet

Our GPS lists the elevation
as 11,340 feet.

It's all downhill from here.

I hope this intrepid bicyclist
has stops planned.

50 BURGER
Shakes & Beer

High Wind

Our route parallels a section
of the Arkansas River.

Rafting is big business here...

I like the Canon City sign.

This stone tower is charming.

Eric & I are on one of

This Scenic Byway is
also the Gold Belt Tour.

We overnight at Walmart.

This hospitality is a smart
business decision.

Shopping is handy for those passing through the area.
