This bridge crosses the creek
in front of the house.

The long & winding road...

Rain slashes our windshield.

Cool Springs Park has Shakes,
Cones, Sodas, Sundaes &
Foot Long Hot Dogs.

Slow down for the curves
ahead.

Eric & I drive past a
General Store.

There's a stretch of straight
road ahead...

We return to West Virginia

& settles around us.

One of several small bridges
we cross on today's drive.

Welcome to Virginia

Virginia Is For Lovers

This stretch of US 50 East is
 a divided four-lane highway.

We are leaving US 50 East
to drive south on US 340/

A ghost sign on the side of a
building in Front Royal.

There are three versions of the origin of the name Front Royal.  The first version is from Colonial military commands.  The second version involves Revolutionary War.  The challenge word by the sentry was Front and the responding password was Royal.  The third version includes the French phrase "le front royale."

It feels like we're in a green,
leafy tunnel...

This chimney is the only remnant
of the house that once stood on
this spot.

Eric & I are staying at
Luray's KOA Holiday
for a few days.

It's great to stop after sixteen
days of continuous travel.

Day Fifteen: US 50 East to Athens, Ohio

Today's drive starts at a
"sign garden."

Grey mesh covers the lower
part of this hillside, preventing
erosion & keeping debris out
of the roadway.

The GPS prompts us to drive south to Ohio State Route 32, a faster route.  Eric and I stay on our chosen route, US 50 East.

Future "Widow Makers" loom

Here's proof that oHIo is
high in the middle.

Eric and I attended an Election Rally at the Ohio State Capitol in 2012.  An organizer used the call and response to warm up the crowd.  The call was OH! and the response was IO!  Senator Marco Rubio was the featured speaker.

Welcome to Bainbridge

Watch for Amish Buggies

Eric & I drive past farms.

This piece of farm equipment
takes up the entire the lane &
road shoulder as it moves
from field to field.

Today's drive is lovely, &

A sign that no one can miss...

City of Athens lettering on
this overpass.

Our GPS directs us through
covered streets.

This building reminds me of
a fortified castle.

It's the Athens, Ohio Armory.

We arrive at the city's Walmart.

The store is WAY back there...

This large adjoining lot has
lots of space for "big rigs."

Our neighbors are
tractor trailers.
Today's drive was five and a half hours on the slower US Route 50.  Eric and I agreed that today's leisurely pace allowed us to see Ohio's smaller towns, cities, and rural areas.
