Drinks @ LITTLE A'LE'INN in Rachel, Nevada Near Area 51

The dog hasn't moved since this morning...

Eric & I are at LITTLE A'LE'INN early for Happy Hour.

My son, Adam, told me about this quote:  "We don't want the UFO groupies over at LITTLE A-LE'INN to spot us."  It's from Dean M. Cole's Ambush (Sector 64 Book One).

Eric & I take a seat
at the bar & read
the drink boards.

Bud Light's Alien Beer
is very popular.

The Alien-themed decor is kitschy.

It's a shame stupidity isn't painful.

A wise Alien indeed...

I chose the Vulcan Mind Meld
made with Rum, Triple Sec,
Peach Schnapps, Cranberry
& Pineapple Juice.

Eric got a Guinness & Jameson
on the Rocks.

Our day trip around Area 51 is at an end.  I'm glad our nephew Jason asked us to visit the area for him.

The Black Mail Box Near Area 51

Nevada State Route 375 East...

... & return to the Black Mailbox.

People put stickers on the
side of this landmark.

People gather here to watch the skies.  They look for Alien spacecraft and swap stories about their Alien hunting adventures.  Some camp nearby for days and wait...

Stickers were left on the
mailbox's door.

What makes this mailbox different from others in the area?  Steve and Glenda Meldin moved to a nearby ranch in 1973 and put the mailbox up for mail delivery.  In 1989 Bob Lazar told a TV station in Las Vegas that he worked on alien spacecraft at nearby Nellis Air Force Base's Training Range and watched saucer test flights in Tikaboo Valley near Area 51.

It's been used for target practice.

The easy-to-spot mailbox became a meeting place in 1989 and remains a tourist attraction to this day.

A shot of me taking a picture
of the mailbox's interior.

Daylight illuminates the
black interior.

There are stickers inside
too.

Eric & I search the skies for

No eerily wavering spacial distortions.  No iridescent objects arc across the sky.  Not even a contrail.  Eric and I will keep watching the skies...

Area 51's Back Gate

The server at LITTLE A'LE'INN gave Eric instructions to Area 51's Back Gate.  It's about 12 miles away...

We take a right off of
onto a gravel road.

across the desert plain.

They turn & pose...

Horses graze in an enclosure.

The one on the right is larger
& has a heavier coat.

I wonder what breed it is.

About Area 51...  It's a military base that was built and equipped during the Cold War to spy on the Soviet Union.  All the secrecy involved in Spycraft has made this isolated, secretive installation the focus of a LOT of speculation...  The most popular theory is that Aliens that crashed near Roswell, New Mexico in July 1947 are kept here.

The following Google Earth images are from Eric's phone.

This picture shows dried-out
Lake Groom on the top &
Area 51's runways on the
lower left.

According to an ABC News
article, the lake bed has
runways.

This image shows a more
detailed view of Area 51.

This Air Force training base
covers 38,400 acres.

The commute to work for civilian employees is looong...  Rachel is the closest town and 54 people live there.  That's not enough people to staff needed positions at Area 51.  It's believed that base employees fly out of McCarran Airport in Las Vegas on Janet Airline and land at Homey Airport at Area 51.

Our first glimpse of Area 51's
Back Gate.

This secretive Air Base has been known by other names:  Dreamland, Yuletide, Watertown, and Paradise Ranch.  The CIA and Air Force have developed surveillance planes, including the 1950s U-2 Spy Plane and the Stealth F-117 Nighthawk at Area 51.

I'm sure that after the planes are built, they're used for training.  Remote Area 51 is a great place to do this.  In his research of Area 51, Eric read that Sonic Booms are common in these parts.

Eric drives closer...

He stops the car about 30 feet
from the Back Gate.

The long lens on my camera
allows me to get these
close-up shots.

How did a military base become entangled in stories of aliens, alien experiments, and researching recovered alien technology?    In 1952 the Air Force started Project Blue Book to investigate UFO reports.  Because there was CIA involvement, rumors started of Alien overflights.  (As a Librarian, I choose to share information found at the National Archives.)

I take a picture from the left
side of the Gate.

There are two cameras on tall
poles just past the fenceline.

Collecting extraterrestrial contact information and evidence, and storing it must occur somewhere.  Secretive Area 51 became the magnet of speculation that continues today.  Plans were made to Storm Area 51 on September 20, 2019.  LITTLE A'LE'INN's ten rooms were booked and the fee to camp on the Inn's 30-acre property was $15.00 per tent.  The sprint through the desert to Storm Area 51 was set to start at 3:00 am...

To the left of the Gate, there are
many signs.

The gist is... don't enter; stay
out; no drone flights allowed.

One Million people were expected...  About 40 people arrived at Area 51, demanding access to the base.  they were dispersed by law enforcement.

I'm good at following rules.

I keep my distance.

I take out two jars & a large spoon
& start putting dirt in the jar
on the left.

The one on the right is quickly
filled with rocks.

Eric gets a pic of us at
Area 51's Back Gate.

We have fulfilled our promise to our nephew, Jason.  Now we'll visit the other tourist traps in the area.
