Biking the Roanoke Canal Trail in Gaston, North Carolina

Planning our activities as we travel has changed since the outbreak of the Covid Pandemic in March. Eric and I stopped going to Museums, Casinos, and the Movies.  We stopped attending Winery, Brewery, and Distillery Tastings and  Tours.  Dining is either Take Out or Outdoor Seating where the tales are placed six-plus feet from each other.

We now visit historic downtown areas to admire the architecture and learn about local history.  We also find  Hiking Trails and Bike Trails to get some exercise and explore nature.  All activities are planned for weekdays when others are at work and don't have time for play.

We drove to Gaston to ride
 our bikes on the Roanoke

Because we are riding near a Canal, Eric and I expect today's drive will be in relatively flat terrain.

This end of the Bike Trail
is easy to find.

I follow Eric...

... on a sandy/gravelly trail.

Our plan is to follow Aqueduct Trail toward Edwin Akers Park.

I follow Eric to the right &
the Bike Trail.

There's a huge pile of ground up
 wood in the distance.

The Bike Trail continues
under power line towers.

We cross the bridge & pedal
up the rise in the distance.

Eric and I stop and talk about this Trail Ride.  The surface of the Roanoke Canal Trail is not what I expected.  The air in our bike tires should be adjusted for this softer surface.

I am not enjoying this ride.  We decide to return to our car and get some groceries while we are in Gaston.
