Driving East to Tucumcari, New Mexico

Eric & I continue our drive across
New Mexico on Interstate 40 East.
Powerlines don't detract from the rugged beauty before us.

Snow dusted mountains in
the distance

Sheep graze just off
the highway.

A shot of a Dust Devil...

The dusty whirlwind
doesn't last long.

We are passing through an
ancient Lava Field.

It looks like the Valley of
Fires in Carrizozo, NM.
Eric and I are driving along the edge of the El Malpais National Monument.  We want to visit next time we are in Arizona.

I drove through Albuquerque.  The traffic was VERY light.  People in New Mexico are staying home to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Gusty Winds May Exist

I love taking pictures in this
region of the country.

Erosion created this "tower."

We leave the highway to get fuel in...

... Moriarty.

Diesel is $2.19 per gallon at
Lisa's Truck Center.

Gas pumps on the left.

Diesel pumps on the right.

This is Rest Stop where we
planned to spend the night.

Our planned three-hour drive is stretching into the fourth hour.   The next Rest Stop is closed too...

Tucumcari is 41miles away.

There's an overnight spot
there.

Eric & I wonder about what
created the light-colored
patches along this ridgeline.

There's a Dinosaur Museum
in Tucumcari.

Another item is added to our
places to visit list.

Today's 5 1/2 hour drive ends
at the vacant KMart just
outside of Tucumcari.

We park along an edge,
facing the store.

Eric and I overnighted here in 2015.  The parking lot remains in good condition, free of potholes and broken glass.

It's time to make dinner and relax after our long drive.
