Visiting Prime Desert Woodland Preserve in Lancaster, CA

Prime Desert Woodland
Preserve is in located in
Southwestern Lancaster.

Elyze Clifford Interpretive
Center is on Wednesday,
Saturday & Sunday.

I looked around and didn't find a Restroom.

The map of the Preserve.

We will walk the western
side today.

Eric & I are on a
well-marked trail

A Crow lands on a
Joshua Tree.

We stop for a pic.

The bridges go over areas
where water runs.

Civilization is right over
there...

A Port-a-Potty just
off the trail.

Eric points the way

There's no way to get lost
on this trail.

Ants on the trail

Eric sits on a bench
beneath a tree.

The charred remains of
a tree is a reminder
of a recent fire.

This open space is a Riparian Area.

Water flows through this section
of the Preserve.

This influences the soil & plantlife.

 A California Ground Squirrel

They live in underground
burrows.

According to the Preserve's write up, it's rare to have Joshua Trees and California Junipers in the same ecosystem.  They have different growth requirements and live at different elevations.  The rainfall and soil conditions in the Antelope Valley allow both to thrive here.

The trail takes us back to
where we started.

Today's walk...

Eric & I liked the Preserve
so much that we plan a
return trip.
