Driving East to Las Cruces, NM & then El Paso, TX

Eric & I start our drive on

We turn onto US Route 54
South in Carrizozo.

Flashing lights encourage
drivers to stop at this
intersection.

El Paso is 124 miles
away.

I look out across a plain
decorated with low growing
yellow flowers.

Irrigation equipment provides
water for agriculture in this
arid climate.

Classes & Races.

This house is on
the market.

 TULIE FREEZE in

Eric & I enter a Work Zone.

A Dump Truck dumps a load
of sand.

I wonder how many cubic
yards are in a truckload.

Mountains in the distance

is up ahead.

Pistachio Trees are carefully
tended.

Our drive takes us to

We continue west through

A big thank you to garyvarner.com
for this close up photo of the
giant yellow sign.

Traffic can be stopped for an hour along US 70 during a Missile Test at nearby White Sands Missile Range.

Eric & I pass a White Sands
Missile Range sign.

This is a huge military
installation.

The White Sands Missile Range/White Sands Proving Ground covers 3,200 square miles.

White Sands in the distance.

Monument is 1 mile away.

White Sands encroach on
the roadway.

I love taking pictures of
Southwest vistas.

It's time to take Interstate 25
South towards El Paso.

Tonight's stay is at a Walmart
in Las Cruces.

Friends Julian and Emma have a home in Las Cruces.  Eric and I are happy that they have time for a visit.

The next day is a repositioning
drive of about 45 miles.

Ooooh that smell..........

Stockyards abut the highway
in Eastern New Mexico.

Welcome to Texas

El Paso is 18 miles away.

Cabela's gave Eric & me
permission to stay the
night in their parking lot.

Emma and Julian's family live in El Paso.  Eric and I are delighted to reconnect with more of the Bendana family.
