Touring the Colorado State Capitol in Denver

Eric and I are here in Denver to visit the Colorado State Capitol.  This is our 48th State Capitol Visit in 6 years.

Eric stands near the statue of a
Union Soldier on the western
 side of the State Capitol.

Colorado was admitted to the union in 1876.  Denver was chosen as the Capital City.  Architect Elijah E. Myers' design of Colorado's People's House is based on the United States Capitol.  Constructed in the 1890s, the State Capitol opened in 1894.

A shot from the landing reveals
the Allen Tupper True murals
on thesecond floor.

The theme of the murals is water, Colorado's invaluable resource.  Each panel shows how people of Colorado have used water from the Native Americans through the 1940s.  Thomas Hornsby Ferrill's poem, Here Is A Land Written In Water accompanies the murals.

Next up: The Senate and General Assembly Chambers  Recent renovations have updated the rooms while retaining historic features.

Colorado's Senate Chamber is
decorated in red.

The color choice follows the
tradition of the English
Parliament.

The House of Lords, the
upper house in Parliament
is decorated in red.

There is private fundraising underway to pay for President Trump's portrait.

Looking up at the Dome

Pink fabric covers the
circular stairway.

I wonder what the circular decorations are near the base of the dome.

Bob says goodbye to us

up to the Capitol Dome.

Our group spends time
examining displays on
the Colorado Capitol
in Bob's Attic.

Looking down to the third floor,
I see the decorations are
stained glass portraits of
Coloradans that contributed
to the initial growth &
development of the state.

My final look at downtown Denver from the Colorado State Capitol.

Colorado's People's House is an architectural delight.  Many of its original details remain today because of careful renovation and preservation.
