Walking Along Brooklyn's Waterfront

 

After breakfast at The River Cafe,

Eric & I start our walk along

Brooklyn's south along the

waterfront.

I look forward to walking the Brooklyn Bridge after reading David McCullough's

The Great Bridge: The Epic Story of the Building of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory

is an institution.

Pier footings reach out across

the East River towards

Lower Manhattan.

Brooklyn Bridge Park incorporates six piers with differing activities along the river.  Each section is unique.

Pier 2 offers Handball, Basketball,

Bocce Ball Courts & a lot more...

Much of it is under a giant pavilion, making it usable in different types of weather.

Pier 3 has a large lawn

& a labyrinth.

Comfortable seating with

an amazing view 

Canada Geese visit the pier.

The shoreline changes as we

walk towards Pier 4 &

its beach.

The Picnic Peninsula at Pier 5
has seating & charcoal grills
for park visitors.

Rent a Sailboat at

the Marina.

Pier 5 has acres & acres of
Activity Fields.

Eric & I investigate this

decoratively painted

boat.

The retired Fire Boat John J. Harvey shows off Flow Separation, a public art display.  This painting technique was invented by British Painter Norma Wilkinson during World War I to optically distort Navy ships' forms to confuse German U-Boats tracking them as to the distance, direction and speed.

A tree lined walkway takes us

from Pier 6 to Atlantic Avenue.

One last peek at Manhattan before

Eric & I walk to Sahadi's.
