Riding Along the Beach Side Trail to the Bay of St. Louis Bridge

Eric and I admired the Bay of St. Louis Bridge when we were driving East to TLC Wolf River Resort in Pass Christian.  We are biking to the high point of the bridge today before doing the Tour of Historic Old Town Bay St. Louis.

Eric at the Washington
Street Pier's pavilion.

This is a popular place for boating,
 fishing, picnicking, sun bathing....

This beach side trail is part
of a system to slow water
encroachment during
big storms.

The "steps" that lead down to the beach were installed to slow down big waves during storms.

I love taking pictures of the
sun glinting off the water.

Our Lady of the Gulf
Catholic Church was
built in 1908.

 This is The Angel Tree.

Angels with wings have been
carved out of some of its
branches.

Pelicans decorate the tree too.

Three people and a dog clung to this tree after Hurricane Katrina washed their home away in 2005. The storm passed and the family climbed out of the tree to search for shelter.

The Bay of St. Louis Bridge
beckons.....

Eric stops at the first of
the Bas Relief markers
that decorate the bridge.

The plaque beneath lists
the mileage.

to travel in and out of  the
Bay of St. Louis.

My Dad told me about the Livingston Avenue Bridge across the Hudson River in Albany that pivoted to allow ships to pass north and south along the Hudson River.  He called this type of bridge a Turn Table Bridge.

Eric leads the way.

This gentle grade is a work out for this 61 year old rider on a three speed bike.

This must be the way the
channel runs into the bay.

Eric at the tallest section
of the bridge.

I do my victory dance... I'm Queen of the World!"  This is a small victory and I revel in it.

Coasting down the bridge
toward Bay St. Louis.

Looking at the City of Bay
St. Louis from the bridge.

This inviting green space with
the gazebo is Private Property.

Eric & I ride our bikes on the
sidewalk into Bay St. Louis.

We will follow the PDF Map of Old Town Bay St. Louis' Historic Tour before stopping for lunch.
