Visiting Nuevo Progreso, Mexico

Nuevo Progreso, Mexico is southwest of where Eric and I are staying in Harlingen.  It is  a popular day trip for visitors to the Rio Grande Valley.

Eric takes a selfie of
us at the US/Mexico
Border Sign, at the
middle of the Rio

The welcome sign
& statue.

The statue symbolizes Mexico's Aztec beginnings.  According to legend, the gods advised the Aztecs to establish their city on land where an Eagle is seen perched in a Prickly Pear Tree, devouring a Serpent.

Progreso has many
shops, pharmacies,
& optical stores.

There are dentists
everywhere...

Sit & dine
roadside.

I like the colorful
store fronts.

There's tee shirts, jewelry, toys, souvenirs, clothing, ceramics, household items....

I was surprised to
find chips with
Hot Sauce.

Pure Vanilla is very popular
& inexpensive, compared to
prices in the US.

A group of bikers
gathers Progreso.

This building is a popular
roosting spot for birds.

Pancho's Bar & Grill
is a poplar watering
hole.

Sit on a saddle &
order a drink.

Friends, Bill & Marilyn,
brought Eric & me to
their favorite pharmacy.

Stop at the bar after
shopping for a free
Margarita.

We watch traditional
Mexican dancing...

... as we sip our
drinks.

Eric & I stop at a
 street side bar.

Eric tries Quita Penas
Crema de Tequilla.

It's very sweet.

I mentioned that I was looking
for fresh Flour Tortillas.

The bartender sent someone
to the local Tortillaria for
Tortillas, & here they are!

Bill & Marilyn took
us to Red Snapper
for lunch.

Eric likes his Chicken Fajitas
with Beans & Rice.

My Shrimp with Rice &
 Queso delicious!

After buying a few souvenirs, Eric and I compare liquor prices with what we pay in the US.  Shopping in Mexico saves us money, even after paying Texas taxes as we re-enter the country.

Estaremos de vuelta!  (We'll be back!)
