The Kite Festival at South Padre Island, Texas

Eric and I return to South Padre Island to watch the kites fly at SPI Kite Fest ....  We park in the area, north of the Convention Center, where we watched  Kite Boarders during our first trip to the island.

Parking is free.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their chairs.  Guest Kite Flyers are putting on exhibitions throughout the day.

A group of Kite Flyers
staked out a tarp to use
as their work area.

The Parrot & Dragon are
beautiful kites.

I wish the sky was not overcast.  Photos are prettier with a blue sky background.

This puffy looking kite
has air vents.

These four kites are being
flown together by four
men.

Some kites...

... look like...

.... quilts....

This beautiful kite looks
like a Luna Moth.

A small piece of canvas with
lines attached to each corner
is filled with sand to anchor
a kite.

Somebody's....

...watching you....

Peggy's Shark marks
her kite flying spot.

I think this kite looks like
a piece of modern art.

Eric & I enjoy watching
the kites.

The sky is brightening....

Hot Dogs anyone?

A crowd is gathering to
watch the kites.

I take my last picture from our car.

Two kite flying teams
fly their kites in
formation to music.

 Next stop... The beach...
