Day Eleven: New York to Texas, Our Off Highway From Louisiana to Willis, Texas

This is it.... November 18 is the last drive day to Texas.  Our goal of staying off Interstates went awry on Day Two. Eric and I missed a Low Bridge Sign and stopped in front of an 8 foot 2 inch overpass.  We unhitched our Jeep, turned the motorhome around, re-hitched the Jeep and detoured onto Interstate 99/US Route 220 to get through Central Pennsylvania.

We are now using the Trucker Path App to check for low clearances and feel confident that we will be able to detour around low bridges.

On the road again...

The Gardner water tower

I am unfamiliar with this
design & am reminded
of the aliens in

A bicyclist rides long the

Bridge Ices Before Road
sign...

I didn't expect to see this
sign so far south.

 I spot a motorhome next
 to a house.

I wonder why the
hood is up.

Welcome to Vernon Parish

A parish is the governmental
equivalent of a county.

While under French and then Spanish Colonial rule, Louisiana was divided into smaller governmental areas that were roughly the size of church parishes.  The Territorial Legislature officially adopted the term.  Louisiana is the only state that uses the term parish.

Market Basket Supermarkets of New England is a separate company.

The bridge in Leesville is
16 feet 4 inches.

I like the way the town used the bridge abutment to welcome visitors.

notes a 12 foot 3 inch
bridge up ahead.

Here's the sign.

The bridge clearance is one inch shorter than the height of our motorhome.  Eric believes that the measured height of the overpass is taller that the listed clearance. He bases this assumption on what he's seen during his work at the New York Department of Transportation.  Still, we will detour, just to be safe.

There are no road shoulders
on this stretch of road.

This section of land has
been logged.

Welcome to Texas.

The rain does not deter
this motorcyclist.

This is every RVer's nightmare.

No one wants to call a

 waiting for a new owner.

We are pulling into this
Valero to fuel up.

It has a dedicated Truck Lane, which is our preference.  Our motorhome is 40 feet long and we tow a Jeep.  The total length is 55 feet.  We block gas pumps, making it harder for
other drivers to fuel up.

Eric & I wait for a logging

It's our turn....

We are driving across

I like the No Texting Sign

Everyone should be able
to see it.

The last leg of our drive
unfurls before us.

We arrive at Thousand

We are parked in a section
that is being worked on.

We will not get a driver's side neighbor because the electricity is not hooked up in that campsite.
