A Ranger Led Tour in Restricted Areas of Highlands Hammock State Park

Highlands Hammock State Park has a "Behind the Scenes Tour" for campers.

Park Ranger Kevin drives a
truck pulling a trolley into
restricted areas of the park.

This section of the park is
bisected by a canal &
there's lots of wildlife
to observe...

takes flight.

Turtles bask in the sun.

We are fortunate to see

They are not often seen,
even in a quiet, remote
area of the park.

This big Alligator suns
itself on the far side
of the canal.

I am very happy that it's waaay over there....

Black Vultures sit on a
tree limb.

A Great Egret sits in
the brush, undisturbed
by the truck & its
rumbling trolley.

This young Alligator has
yellow stripes across its
body & tail

This large Alligator is partially
camouflaged by ferns &
tiny water plants.

And, this Alligator has
 some growing to do...
All too soon the ninety minute tour came to an end.  Everyone on the trolley thanked Kevin for sharing Highlands Hammock State Park's birds and reptiles with us.
