The New Mexico Visitor Information Center in Chama, New Mexico

The New Mexico Visitor
Information Center....

... has a dump station.

It's open 24/7 & a
$5.00 donation is
requested.

A cut out of Billy the Kid
stands in the corner.

Billy the Kid, aka William H. Bonney, started running afoul of the law when he was 15.  He killed Sheriff William Brady and Deputy George Hindman during the Lincoln County War in 1878.  After testifying against fellow murderers, Billy was pardoned for his crimes by New Mexico Territorial Governor Lew Wallace.  Unable to stay out of trouble, Billy the Kid was arrested for cattle rustling and sentenced to hang.  Billy killed his jail guard and shot a deputy during his jailbreak on April 28, 1881.  He was hunted down by Lincoln County Sheriff Pat Garrett and killed in Fort Sumner in 1881. Billy the Kid's criminal career came to an end when he was 21.

Since that time, his legend has grown.  Billy the Kid has been immortalized in songs, poems, books and movies.

There's a lot of
brochures to
browse here.

Eric and I left with an armful of brochures.  We expect to spend at least a month in New Mexico this winter.
