Our Second Detour: The Four Corners Monument in Utah, Colorado, Arizona & New Mexico

We drive to the Navajo Nation

The admission fee is $5.00 per adult.

The Entrance Booth includes
a statement prohibiting the
dispersal of human remains
on tribal parks.

A low lying building surrounds
the monument.

A reminder about the
prohibition on spreading
human ashes at the
monument with the plea
to respect tribal beliefs.

Apparently, it is common for visitors to bring the ashes of their loved ones with the intention of spreading them in four states at once.

Benches surround the geographic
site of four adjoining states...

The low lying building is a series of stalls where Navajo sell souvenirs and native crafts.

Eric and I reminisce about the Breaking Bad episode, Cornered.  Skyler White flips a coin at the Four Corners Monument, expecting to let fate decide what her next move will be.... To stay in New Mexico with Walt and continue to lead a life she knows is a lie.  Or, leave Walt and take Walter Jr. and Holly to another state and start a new life.

Watch the episode to find out if Skyler accepts the results of a coin flip...

A woman takes a picture of
a family lying on the
monument.

Each one is lying in a
different state.

I do yoga, badly, in
four states at once.

Eric & I stand on the
monument.

I stand in Arizona & Utah.

Eric stands in Colorado &
New Mexico.

Neither Eric, nor I, flipped a coin.  We know where our next stop will be... Farmington.
