7:30 am on the Oklahoma Panhandle
Boise City, Oklahoma became nationally known, overnight... This small city, in the middle of America, was bombed during World War II.
At 12:30 am on July 5, 1943, a B-17 Flying Fortress from Dalhart Army Airfield in Texas mistook the lights of Boise City for its target, a practice bombing range. The B-17 dropped six practice bombs on the sleeping city. No one was hurt, but residents were badly shaken.
