The Meet the Brewer Event at Mad Jack Brewing Co. at The Van Dyck Restaurant in Schenectady, New York

Eric & I enter the stately
Van Dyck Restaurant
& Lounge on lower
Union Street.

The Van Dyck Restaurant and Lounge was a stop on the 53rd Annual Stockade Walkabout in September, 2013.  It's a lovely restaurant with banquet rooms for large groups.

Behind the Van Dyck is Mad
patio with outdoor seating.

We are here for the first Meet the Brewer Event.  Eric and I will sample this week's experimental beer.  These beer batches are small... just five gallons.

Brewer, Sam Pagano, shared
his beer making career
with us.

Sam's home brewing hobby was the first step in his brewing career.  He's been working in the beer making business ever since.  The beers Sam brews at Mad Jack Brewing Company are given Schenectady themed names....Bellevue Blond, Pinhead Pale Ale, ALCO Ale, Dutchmen Lager etc.

Today's experimental brew is
Fightin' Irwin with Pineapple
& Citra Hops.

Eric sits at the bar & writes
down his choices for a
"build your own" beer flight.

He is including The Challenge
Pale Ale because $1.00 from
each pint sold goes to find a
cure for ALS.
(Lou Gehrig's Disease)

Mad Jack Brewing Company, and other breweries, make a unique beer each year for the Ales for ALS Charity.  Participating brewers use specially blended hops to create The Challenge.  One dollar from the sale of each pint goes to research to find a cure at the ALS Therapy Development Institute.

We love the beer caddie!

It reminds us of the wooden
tool boxes Eric & his Cub
Scout Den made about

Eric's favorite Mad Jack brew is the Stockade Stout.

We recommend this summer's Thursday Meet the Brewer Events.  Get to know Sam, take a tour of Mad Jack Brewery and sample one of his experimental beers.

Spend some time looking over the Van Dyck's menu.  Eric and I have eaten there and the food is wonderful!
