The D.C. War Memorial in Washington, D.C.





The D/C .War Memorial
honors the men & women of
the District of Columbia
who died during their
service in World War I.






This Memorial dedicated on November 11, 1931 by President Herbert Hoover..  General John Pershing and John Philip Sousa, a native Washingtonian and former U.S. Marine Corps Band conductor were in attendance.






The D.C. Memorial is an
open air Doric columned
structure.






Names of the honored dead
are inscribed along the
Memorial\s base.












It is made of Vermont 

The Memorial is 47 feet 
tall & 44 feet wide.








It  is large enough to accommodate the entire U.S. Marine Band.  Intended as a memorial to the dead and to be used a bandstand.  Each performance would be dedicated to the 499 fallen D.C. residents who gave their lives during the Great War.
