The Play's the Thing... At Fort Raleigh on Roanoke Island, North Carolina

Past Fort Raleigh, Eric
& I see a palisade & a
two story building.

As the audience at the Lost Colony
 Theater watches the play, they
scan the horizon, looking for the
 much hoped for supply ships.

The Lost Colony, a dramatization of the the lives of the colonists in the Lost Roanoke Colony, runs from late May through late August.

Pulitzer Prize Playwright
& author of The Lost Colony.

The Lost Colony has
been performed here
since 1937.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt attended the twenty-third performance of The Lost Colony on August 18, 1937, the 350th anniversary of Virginia Dare's birth.  Born less than a month after John White's expedition landed on Roanoke Island, she is the first English child born in the New World.
