Taking the Ferry from Ocracoke Island to Hatteras Island, North Carolina

I'ts easy to find the ferry
to Hatteras Island.

Follow US Route 12
north until it ends.

Here comes the ferry.

Cars wait to board for the
hour long trip across Hatteras

We are parked behind a
truck & two cars
on this ferry.

A Seagull sits on a
piling as we leave
the north end of
Ocracoke Island.

We are on board
the Neuse.

Today, we are bringing
up the rear.

The clearance on the right
side of the ship is 8 feet.

The motorhome is 12
feet 4 inches tall.

The back of the
ferry

is  heading south to

The Passenger Lounge
is upstairs.

A bench for passengers
at the front of the ferry

A large group can sit
together in the lounge.

Other than a set of seats & a
table, this side of the lounge
 looks like a bus.

A ferry on its way
to Oracoke Island.

Our route into Hatteras
Harbor.

This arching  route is longer than the previous route.  The preferred route has been filling in as currents bring in more and more sand.

The details of Hatteras
become clear.

This is a colorful
harbor.

Eric starts to move the
motorhome forward,
off the ferry.

One car waits to take the
ferry south to Ocracoke
Island.

After we visit the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras, Eric and I will continue our drive north along the Outer Banks.
