The Train Depot in Plains Georgia: Jimmy Carter's Campaign Headquarters

Plains, Georgia was not ready for a presidential campaign.  Suddenly there was a lot of phone calls to make and fliers to mail, but no office to work from.

The former Train Depot was chosen
for Jimmy's campaign headquarters
because it was the only place in
downtown Plains with a
rest room.

Waiting room benches show
the building's original
use.

Plains, Georgia is happy to
state, "This is Carter Country."

Jimmy Carter's humble beginnings
were highlighted in the 1976
presidential campaign.

the election results.

campaigns on an old

Citizens of Plains were happy
to campaign & host fundraisers
for Carter's campaigns.
