The National Cemetery at the Andersonville National Historic Site

The Andersonville National
Cemetery is on the grounds of
the Andersonville National
Historic Site.

Nearly 13,000 of the graves in this cemetery are of Union prisoners who died in Andersonville Prison from February 1864 to April 1865.

The Iowa Memorial is topped by
the figure of a weeping woman.

The Connecticut Memorial
looks out over the graves.

This section of the cemetery
is closed for the funeral of
a veteran or a dependent.

The Pennsylvania Memorial

A Union Soldier looks down
sadly at the graves....

It's staggering, the number
of graves that I look
out across.

The Minnesota Memorial depicts
a soldier with his head bowed
& with this hat held over
his heart.

commemorates the patriotism,
 sacrifices and fortitude of the
thousands of New York soldiers
confined at Andersonville.

The Illinois Memorial was
erected for the state's
889 known dead.
