Walking Around Washington, DC at Night

As Dave, Kathy, Eric and I walk from the National Museum of Natural History to The Ellipse, I get pictures of a familiar, yet changing city.

The Smithsonian Castle
softens & fades at sunset.

shapes that make up the
building's framework.

Damage caused by the August 23, 2011 5.8 magnitude earthquake closed the Washington Monument. After three years, the $15 million dollar repair and restoration project was completed and the monument reopened for tours on May 12, 2014.

Lights along the National
Mall beckon visitors to
the Capitol Building.

The Capitol dome is covered in scaffolding during its first restoration since it was built in the 1860s. The cost of the project is $60 million and take two years to complete.

Buildings take on a
spectral glow...

As we pause and wait for walk lights, I appreciate architect Pierre L'Enfant's street planning of our nation's Capital City.  Visitors have easy walks between major monuments, museums, government buildings and restaurants.
