Walking Along the River in Dawson City, Yukon Territory

The Dike Walkway runs
 along the top of the
Dawson City dike.

Sitting at the confluence of the Yukon and Kondike Rivers, Dawson City is prone to flooding.  There have been 22 floods since 1898.  Waters from the flood in the spring of 1979 reached Sixth Avenue.  Some buildings were a total loss.  This dike was built and Dawson City has been dry ever since.
