Driving West to Fairbanks, Alaska

We start our surrounded by
trees with mountains in
the distance.

the fire danger is high.

We drive over the Black
Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Black American engineers and troops worked on the Alaska Highway construction in 1942. The United States Armed Forces were segregated during World War II.  Black engineers and troops lived and worked separately from their white counterparts.  This bridge commemorates with their dedication to the work given them.

The Gerstle River is low
right now.

We discuss this & decide
 the river is high during
the spring run off.

We are alert for Bison
on & near the road.

No luck today.

Everyone who drives the
Alaska Highway must stop

We drive past open water.

The Knotty Shop uses
burled wood extensively.

Welcome to
Fairbanks, Alaska

Eric finds the Walmart Supercenter and we settle in for the night.  OvernightRVParking.com has been our go to guide for boondocking in western Canada and Alaska.

There is no DirecTV satellite TV reception here.  At least one of the 11 local TV channels has news that we can watch.  We will be using Lowe's WiFi while we are in Fairbanks.
