The Astoria Column in Astoria, Oregon

Our first view of the
Astoria Column
on Coxcomb Hill.

The Astoria Column is one of twelve historical markers built during the early 1900s between St. Paul Minnesota and Astoria, Oregon.

\
The Astoria Column shows the history
of Oregon from Indian Tribes to the
arrival of the railroad in Oregon.

Astoria Column Statistics:
The Great Northern Railroad and Vincent Astor, great grandson of John Jacob Astor paid for the thirty acre
site and construction of the Column.
The Column is 125 feet tall, it has 164 steps.
The Astoria Column was dedicated in 1926.

Astoria is nestled below
the Column.

The Astoria-Megler Bridge
spans the Columbia River.

One of the old canneries
in Astoria.

Coast Guard ships moored near
the Columbia Maritime Museum.

Daggett Point juts into the

Eric tosses a balsa wood
airplane from the
Astoria Tower.

It disappears!

Then, we see it coiling
(the itty bitty dot)

its way

down to the ground
That was fun!  Go get the plane, Eric, and I'll toss it.  Eric laughs....  He's not climbing  the 164 steps in the Column a second time so I can toss a balsa wood plane from the Column.   I don't blame him.
