The El Paso Mission Trail

The first mission we visit on the
El Paso Mission Trail is The
Presidio Chapel in San Elizario.

The original chapel was built in the 1770s to provide for the spiritual needs of Mexican troops.  This chapel, built in 1877, replaced the one destroyed by a flood.

The park is across from the
church...

This area has a very
Spanish feel.

Next, we visit Mission

The original Mission Senora de la Concepcion del Socorro was founded in 1682.  The present Socorro Mission was constructed around.1840 to replace the mission destroyed in 1829 by flooding of the Rio Grande

Across from Mission Socorro
is a cemetery.

Lastly, we visit Mission de

The mission's bell stands
separately from the church.

Ysleta Mission was established by Antonio de Otermin and Fray Francisco de Ayeta
in 1680.

The shrine adjacent to the
mission has a parking
spot in front of it.

Across from the mission
lie the streets of Ysleta.

Missions in the El Paso area were essential to provide services to immigrants and area Native American tribes.
