The Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles long. It connects The Great Smokey Mountains National Park in North Carolina with The Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. Today we are driving a loop west of Asheville, North Carolina.
It's a clear day &
very few people are
on the road.
The blue mountains
are mysterious.
Eric & I talk about the construction
of this two lane road in the 1930s.
There are several tunnels
on this route.
I think of the tons of
rock removed for this
section of road.
Eric loves driving this windy road. Our afternoon rolls on.
The mountains go
on & on.
This is the highest point on
the Blue Ridge Parkway.
We found snow along the
north side of the road.
Guide rails make me happy.
Looking Glass Rock was
formed 390 million years ago.
It is a pluton - a big ball
of granite.
This tunnel
is short.
The Parkway is a ribbon
that hugs the mountains.
