Hiking to Linville Falls in Western North Carolina

Linville Falls is a series of waterfalls in in Burke County, North Carolina.  Because of easy access from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this area is very popular.

The trail starts out gently.

The river then

plunges 45 feet into a
narrow gorge.

The trail becomes
more challenging.

While walking between overlooks, we were suddenly surrounded by teenagers.  What's going on here?  We get to the Plunge Basin Overlook to find about 10 teenagers staring at their smart phones, trying to get a signal and ignoring the view of the waterfalls.

The view down the Linville River
as it continues through the gorge.

When we returned to our car,
we saw two buses & 80 or
so teenagers.

They are from Apex High School,
Apex, North Carolina.
Their next stop is Linville Caverns.

Enjoy the Caverns!  Safe travels!
