East to Des Moines, Iowa

Wind and gray skies of
Nebraska foretold rain.

A neighborhood dog stopped
to say goodbye to us as we left
Windrest Winery.

Poor thing needs
to be groomed.

Eric and I are happy to see the rain.  Dale from Windcrest Winery told us that since the third week of May rainfall has measured in the hundredths of an inch.

The buffeting winds made our drive tiring.  Eric and I shared the three and one half hour drive to Des Moines, IA.

Our bikes aren't as secure on the bike rack as we would like.  A bolt sheared off when we hit a large bump in Cheyenne, WY.  Eric replaced it and noticed that the other bolt was bent.  That bolt failed this morning on I 80 and a kind driver honked his horn to alert us that there was a problem.  I pulled to the side of the road and Eric added more rope to the bike rack and bikes.

Eric contacted Hollywood Bike Racks,  the maker of the bike rack, to get replacement bushings and bolts. The parts are under warranty and are being sent to Eric's Mom's house in Rotterdam, NY.  This afternoon we will shop for hardware to better fix the bike rack while we wait for replacement parts.
