The Maryland State House, Annapolis, Maryland

Eric and I visited the Maryland State House in Annapolis, Maryland.  My cousin, Rick, gave us some inside information about the building and practical advice about parking in this city of narrow streets.

The Maryland State House is the oldest in the country. 

Construction on the old section of the State House 

began in 1772 and was completed in 1779.

Senate Chamber

The Original Senate Chamber is closed for historic investigation. Important historical events 

occurred this Chamber:  

     The Continental Congress met there from November 26, 1783, to August 13, 1784.

     General George Washington resigned his commission as Commander-in-Chief of the 

     Continental Army on December 23, 1783. 

     Thomas Jefferson was appointed the first United States Minister Plenipotentiary 

     to France on May 7, 1784.

Eric and I are adding this State House to our list of Capitols Where We Were Excited by Our Visit. 

Built in 1779, it is historically impressive. Great things happened here..
